EXAMINATION OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN OF COVID-19 PERSONAL THREAT PERCEPTION ON MATERNITY FUNCTION IN WOMEN WHO BIRTH DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC PROCESS

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the maternal function and threat perception of COVID-19
disease of women who birth during the pandemic process and to examine the relationship
between of the threat perception of COVID-19 on maternal function. This cross-sectional study was
conducted with 281 women who birth during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data were collected online
using a questionnaire containing women’s descriptive information, the COVID-19 Personal Threat
Perception Scale, and the Barkin Maternity Function Inventory. The mean age of the women in the
study was 30.79±0.27 years. In this study, the total mean score of the women’s Barkin Maternal
Function Inventory was 88.59±0.81. The mean score of the mothers from the COVID-19 Personal
Threat Perception Scale was 4.28±0.04. In the study, no significant correlation was found between
the overall mean score of Barkin Maternal Function Inventory and the COVID-19 Personal Threat
Perception Scale (p>0.05). However, a low level of correlation was found between the subscales
of the Barkin Maternal Function Inventory and some scale items of the COVID-19 Personal Threat
Perception Scale (for each; p<0.05). In this study, it was seen that the maternal function of mothers
who birth during the pandemic process and the threat perception of COVID-19 were quite high, but
the threat perception of COVID-19 did not relationship between the maternal function. It is thought
that during the pandemic process, mothers perceive the COVID-19 as a high level of threat, and
along with this, they adapt better to maternal function during this difficult period.
