The Use of Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Methods In Health Technology Assessments: A Bibliometric Analysis

Health systems have to meet needs with limited resources. Limited resources reveal the importance of decision-making processes in health services. This study aims to provide a comprehensive view based on the bibliometric analysis of the literature on the use of multi-criteria decision-making methods in the field of health technologies evaluation. The study reveals the current status of the included studies, information about the citations of the study, the keywords used, the authors of the studies and their networks, and analyses such as cross-country cooperation. The studies consist of a total of 237 studies, including 203 research articles and 34 review articles. According to the findings of the study, it is seen that it was published in 146 different journals between the years 2004-2023, has an annual growth rate of 5.95%, and has an average of 25 citations per article. While 8 of the studies were written by a single author, the number of co-authors per article was found to be 8.95. International co-authorship was found to be 43.88%. Focusing on topics such as rare diseases and orphan drugs, reimbursement, and economic evaluation of scientific research on the use of multi-criteria decision-making methods in health technology evaluations will provide a new perspective on the field and have the potential to fill this gap in the field.
